Fish in freezer
A strange sight from BIO235’s field course where an attempt of temporary conservation of fish in the freezer has created a true piece of art! Photo: Mari Vold Bjordal. Design: Aurelien Delaval.

MBD researchers at The Genome Analysis Centre (UK)
Over the course of last week, Kenneth Meland, Francisca Carvalho and Joana Xavier participated in an intensive training course at The Genome Analysis Centre in Norwich (UK). This course focused on the molecular and analytical aspects of genotype-by-sequencing (GBS) methods, and guided the participants all the way from the study design and strategy through the computational pipelines and results interpretation. The acquired skills will be used in several projects currently ongoing at the Marine Biodiversity Group, which will be conducted using the NGS facilities in the Biodiversity Lab (BDL).

Photo of the week – Week 19: Mini symposium
by ernah • • 0 Comments
Tuesday 10th of May seven master students from the Marine BioDiversity (MBD) research group presented their projects during a mini symposium. The students presented a broad range of topics ranging from management, deep-sea ecology, biodiversity, taxonomy, systematics, evolution, to functional morphology. They were a mixed group from newly started- to close to the deadline for delivery-students. Still, while some students found it useful as practice for the soon-to-come master’s exam, others used the opportunity to sort and share ideas and thoughts before the start of the project.
